Escape & Evasion Books

This page was started on September 7, 2014.  On it I began listing new escape and evasion books that came to my attention, including some that were awaiting publication.  I welcome suggestions for additions to the list because I am sure there are many I am not aware of. A full description of a book, a picture of the cover, name of the publisher, and date of publication as of November 2022 will appear on the website of the Air Forces Escape and Evasion Society (AFEES) following the Table of Contents at https://airforceescape.org/book-list/. What appears below is just the Table of Contents. Click on the AFEES link for full information.

  1. Have you read Night Sky by Clare Francis?
My Father was an Australian in RAF Coastal Command and fortunately was not shot down.

I haven’t read it but it appears interesting. It is a novel published originally around 1984. Reviews on Amazon are favorable.

  2. I just ought Eugene Halmos’ book The Wrong Side of the Fence, about his escape and then arrest after a Liberator went downover the Netherlands. Great story. On amazon.com

  3. Please take a look at “Messages in Handlebars” about the youngest French resistance fighter and his network’s dealings with the SOE. It is on Amazon. A new translation into French will be available by December of 2019.

“Messages in Handlebars” has been added to the list of escape and evasion books on this page as well as to the one on the website of the Air Forces Escape and Evasion Society at https://airforceescape.org/escape-and-evasion-research/book-list/.

  4. Excellent bibliography!
