My father was in the Merchant Marines during WWll and I am trying to find any info on him. He was born in 1897 in Rotterdam Zued Holland. He was on a merchant ship , name unknown, and he had a pass to travel over the waters during the war. If there is anything you can tell me or direct me to someone who might be able to, I would appreciate it. His name is Herman A. Scheepsma Thank you, William J. Scheepsma
Mr. Scheepsma,
Here are some links that might be useful: https://wwii-netherlands-escape-lines.com/links-to-other-escape-and-evasion-websites/merchant-marine/ . Also you might find the interview with a British merchant mariner useful: https://wwii-netherlands-escape-lines.com/interviews/interview-with-laurence-w-bill-bettinson-3rd-radio-officer-on-the-lisbeth-2/ . Try also the Netherlands Institute for War Documentation at http://www.niod.nl/en and the Dutch National Archives at http://en.nationaalarchief.nl/ . If you find any good sources on Dutch merchant mariners, please let me know.
